The Main Game is the main mode in the Super Monkey Ball series. In it, the monkeys, in plastic balls, must roll into the Goal without falling off the stage or before the time runs out. Bananas can be collected for more points and extra lives.

In Super Monkey Ball, the Main Game is divided into three modes: Challenge Mode, Practice Mode, and a third mode where two monkeys race to the finish at the same time.
Initially there are three difficulty levels to choose from that determine the difficulty and the number of stages that will be played. They are Beginner, Advanced, and Expert. Beating the stages without using a continue (without losing a life in the US version for Beginner and Advanced difficulties) will allow the player to advance to Extra Floors. If Expert is beaten without using a continue (including the Extra Floors), a fourth difficulty level Master is unlocked. Once all the stages are beaten, the Credits play.
Practice Mode allows the player to practice any level they have already played.
