Special Mode appears in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania's Main Game, alongside Story Mode, Challenge Mode, and Practice Mode. The Special Mode offers five additional sets of challenges for the player to take on after they have been purchased from the Point Shop.
They are Reverse Mode, Dark Banana Mode, Golden Banana Mode, Original Stage Mode, and DX Mode, and they cost 10,000 points each to unlock.
Reverse Mode[]
- “You think you know your courses? Try swapping the starting and finish lines for a whole new challenge!”
Reverse Mode contains a set of ten stages on which the start point and goal have switched places. The goal of this mode is simply to go from point B to point A.
Dark Banana Mode[]
- “Do your best to avoid the bananas! I can't eat my favorite food!? That's bananas!”
Dark Banana Mode contains a set of ten stages that have dark red, ominous looking bananas scattered on them. The goal of this mode is to clear the stages without collecting any of the dark bananas. Collecting one will result in a "Game Over," after which the stage restarts from the beginning.
Golden Banana Mode[]
- “A prize more precious than diamonds to AiAi and friends! Clear the stage by collecting all the glistening Golden Bananas!”
Golden Banana Mode contains a set of ten stages that have glowing, golden bananas scattered across them. The goal of this mode is to clear the stages by collecting all of the golden bananas. Successfully collecting the last remaining banana ends the stage as the goal has been removed in this mode.
Original Stage Mode[]
- “Challenge yourself with the original versions of the 23 stages, now with adjusted difficulty! Can you clear these blasts from the past with the original difficulty from 2001 and 2002?”
Original Stage Mode is a collection of twenty-three stages that appear in their original, unaltered forms from Super Monkey Ball 1, 2 and Deluxe respectively. These twenty-three stages have received some changes in Banana Mania, in most cases to ease up the difficulty in the Challenge Modes.
DX Mode[]
- “Challenge yourself with the stages from Super Monkey Ball Deluxe! Many splendid stages await you!”
DX Mode is a collection of all forty-seven stages that were exclusive to Super Monkey Ball Deluxe, back to back. Due to Destiny replacing Nintendo in this game, Destiny does not appear in this mode, which in turn leaves this mode with forty-six stages instead.
