The first appearance of the switch in Super Monkey Ball 2, on the stage Switches.
A switch is a prop in Super Monkey Ball 2, Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll, Super Monkey Ball 3D, and Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania. It triggers an event when it is touched.
Appearance[]
Super Monkey Ball 2[]
In Super Monkey Ball 2, switches are red beveled octagons with a symbol in the center. They become brighter when pressed.
Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll[]
In Step & Roll, switches are now more like holograms on the ground. They are circular and flat, and light up when activated. Switches are colour-coded, with play switches being pink, fast-forward switches being red, reverse switches being blue and stop switches being gray.
Super Monkey Ball 3D[]
In Super Monkey Ball 3D, switches retain their design from the previous game, but now light up blue briefly when pressed. Only play switches exist.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania[]
In Banana Mania, switches are designed like they were in Super Monkey Ball 2, only they are coloured a metallic gray, and have a small image of a banana bunch on them.
Purpose[]
A switch, when pressed, triggers an event (generally a moving part of the stage). What it actually does, and whether it repeats or not, depends on the stage.
Types of switches[]
There are six kinds of switches, which have various effects. These are identified by the symbol in their center.
- Play switch (right-facing triangle) - Causes moving parts to start moving at normal speed.
- Reverse switch (left-facing triangle) - Causes moving parts to start moving in reverse at normal speed.
- Fast-forward switch (two right-facing triangles)- Causes moving parts to start moving at high speed.
- Fast reverse switch (two left-facing triangles) - Causes moving parts to start moving in reverse at high speed.
- Pause switch (parallel rectangles) - Causes moving parts to stop (Super Monkey Ball 2).
- Stop switch (square) - Causes moving parts to stop (Step & Roll).
Trivia[]
- In Banana Mania, switches in Dr. Bad-Boon's Base that the player starts off landing on are raised higher than all other switches in the game, with said switch on Grid Bridge being raised higher still.
