Switch Inferno is the 19th Expert stage in Super Monkey Ball 2 and the 38th Expert stage in Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. It also appears as the 148th Ultimate stage with continues and the 188th without continues.
In Story Mode, it appears as World 6-9 in Super Monkey Ball 2 and as World 6-15 in Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. It is given a 9 out of 10 difficulty rating.
Description[]
The layout is two stories tall. The top story has the goal, which is partially sunk into the platform, making it inaccesible at first. This story also has fifty-six switches, arranged in a 7x8 grid. Of these, four raise the goal for a few seconds, twenty-six trigger the movable left wall, and twenty-six trigger the movable right wall. Either wall will smack the player if they did not hit one of the four correct switches.
The bottom floor is a simple platform that is connected to the top via a ramp. You cannot access the goal from here. The purpose of this floor is to catch the player if they were knocked off by one of the walls, so that they may try again without falling out. What usually happens instead though, is that the player gets launched off-stage by colliding with a switch after getting smacked.
Goal Tutorial[]
As previously described, this goal is partially hidden underneath the top story and inaccessible from the bottom story. It can be uncovered by pressing a correct switch and rushing towards the goal. See "Switch Locator" below for more information.
For a spoiler on exactly which switch to press, look below.
The best switch to press is the one that is third from the left and fourth from the back. Hit it with a running start and head into the goal.
Switch Locator[]
A basic strategy is to press two incorrect switches and escape to the bottom story. Use the map and take note of those that did NOT light up. Return to the top and press an unlighted switch to reveal the goal. Keep hitting correct switches until you can make it through the goal. If you accidentally hit an incorrect switch, remember its position and try again.
Trivia[]
- This stage is prone to frame drops on the Nintendo Switch version of Banana Mania.
- In Deluxe's Challenge Mode version of this stage, the collision used in header used alongside with the goal is missing. Due to this, it is possible to roll straight into the side of the goal without having to press a switch first.
- In the PS2 version of Deluxe, this stage lacks the water, city, and the whale's mouth, leaving the stage in darkness with only the bones showing.
