Vortiginous’ home page in 2005.
Vortiginous (also known as Video Game Ownage) was a website created by Scott Kessler, also known by his username sdkess. The now-defunct website was used originally Kessler's personal programming website that eventually turned into a page into a repository for videos of high scores and challenge runs in a variety of games, including Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2, and contained high score world records from 2003 to 2008. The website also hosted forums where registered users could discuss videos hosted on the site.
In January of 2005, Kessler announced he would no longer be accepting video submissions for the site, but continued to maintain the servers and forums and allow users to upload videos onto their own accounts. An archive of Super Monkey Ball replays hosted on the Vortiginous servers were taken before the website shut down in 2012. However, many videos previously hosted on the site have been lost to time due to outdated records being deleted to preserve disk space. Many videos of full-game runs also failed to be archived.
Trivia[]
- Vortiginous was one of three websites that hosted Super Monkey Ball replays before the existence of YouTube. Others included klow.net, created by user Frode “Fro” Kløw, and a UK-based website created by user AJShakey.
